Springer Spaniels are a breed of gun dog traditionally used for flushing out and retrieving game. The Springer Spaniel is an affectionate, excitable breed of dog with lifespan of around 12 to 14 years.

English Springer Spaniels or ESS for short have two different lines, the working line and the show line. Springers have average health complaints. Springer Spaniels have an excelent temerament however the show line spaniel has been linked to "rage syndrome", although the disorder is very rare.

The term springer comes from their historic hunting role, where the dogs would "spring" birds into the air, even an untrained springer can run randomly into a field to flush a bird they have found.
